A coffee morning run by parishioner Tiffany Nicholson raised £122.27 for Macmillan. The coffee and cakes were lovely and the event well attended by locals. Thanks to Tiffany for organising this event.
We have also had a wine tasting evening organised by Jeremy Filmer-Bennett in Roachill and run by Charlie Cotton of Bray Wines. A full hall tasted a variety of New World wines, ate a lot of cheese and biscuits and took part in a devilishly hard heads or tails game to win an alcoholic prize. The community bus was even hired to bring visitors from Oakford. The event raised £273.26 for the hall funds.
Saturday 12th November saw resident quizmaster Ian Brooks preside over the annual Knowstone Parish quiz. Eight teams took part and the competition was fierce with the Wrong Trousers finally emerging as triumphant winners by just two points, although this was a long way ahead of the teams at the bottom! This event raised £225 for the hall funds.
On Saturday 18th June 2016 a Hobby Horse race night was held in the hall. The performances of the jockeys varied considerably with some mastering the technique quickly to race home at speed and others needing much encouragement to collapse over the finishing line. The winning jockeys of each race received a trophy and those in second a lovely rosette. The winning owners could toast their success with a bottle of wine. The losers of each race were auctioned off and were somewhat reluctantly purchased as everyone found it hard to decide who would be the worst of the lot. Bids were much keener for the winners' race with jockeys going for over £30 each. The overall champion was Ed Costerton. Congratulations! Just over £700 was raised for hall funds and a great night was had by all. The race programme can be found here and the list of winners and losers here. Look out for the third running of the Knowstone Hobby Horses next year.
